Sources close to "the shafters" confirm that the rumours published on 'crikey' indeed do have legs; perhaps that's what we meant about 'black shirts' on Wednesday in our last post.
We have checked with parties from both sides of the 'summoning' before Big Tony; sources from both sides confirm that there is a meeting.
As for the agenda, well it's not exactly about crushing the union as suggested in the rumour. But it is about the CA and whether a way forward can be achieved. Of course there may be more in the rumour than is being publicly stated by both parties (well at least by our contacts).
We understand that the great TFN will be on duty before the minister along with some VPs and the Exec Sec.
We hope that discussions are real and fruitful; but you won't mind if we don't hold our breath will you?

Will he be driving to Sydney or trying to fly again?
It seems clear that Greg doesn't want an agreement - he is hoping that the matter is taken to the AIRC for arbitration and, when that body rules in fovour of the ATCs, he can sit back and say to the minister "well it wasn't my fault...". The minister is clearly not listening to the voices on the ground telling him how badly managed the company has been since his arrival - he is not a capable CEO and as a flow on effect as appointed General Managers who should have never risen above a middle management position. The minister has openly supported the CEO - he will end up looking extremely silly over the next few months unless he turns around an gets rid of the problem. Holding a nice little tea party to encourage everyone to play nice demonstrates his complete lack of understanding of how deeply the employees feel on this issue.
As a message to the minister - if you want the problem to be resolved you should get rid of the cause - the CEO and his GMs are living in a strange deluded bubble and they need to go. Caroline Fleming was a poor choice to lead a HR function and she has appointed inadequate and underqualified people to run the CA process - not one of them (with the exception of Ms Moodie) have experience in leading a negotiation. Even Mr Mueller has never been involved with a CA outside of the AIRC. So perhaps the minister should be asking Mr Russell how can he possibly believe that he is close to an agreement (after more than 8 months of stuffing about) when he doesn't have one single capable person on his side working for him?
